Market Square sits between Main Road and the Old Harbour, and it is where you get your bearings in Hermanus. Cafés, restaurants, craft shops, the tourism office, and the board on which the Whale Crier chalks up his sightings. The Old Harbour and Gearing's Point are two minutes on foot from here, Hoy's Koppie ten. At weekends in season the square is full; on a winter weekday it belongs to the people who live here.

The big market does not happen on the square but at the Hermanus cricket club above the town: the Hermanus Country Market, every Saturday from 09:00 to 14:00, with farm produce, bread, cheese, crafts and breakfast eaten standing up (as of August 2026). On Market Square itself, weekend stalls sell jewellery and souvenirs. During the Whale Festival in early October the whole square becomes a stage.
