Avalon on Sea is within easy walking distance from the center of Hermanus with its fine restaurants, craft markets, shops and the world’s only whale crier. Enjoy the “Park and Walk” life-style by leaving your car in the secure car park and walking the short distance to most of the attractions in Hermanus.

Hearty, healthy breakfasts are served daily, while dinners and picnic hampers are offered on request.

We gladly arrange wine tours, beer tours, bicycle hire, shark diving expeditions and paragliding or perhaps suggest a more leisurely excursion such as a stroll through the fynbos along the Cliff Path down to the village.

It is along this route that the Southern Right Whales can be seen, when they visit annually to breed and nurse in the warm waters below. Nature lovers will delight in the spectacular display of coastal mountain flora found in the region.

Our five en-suite bedrooms are all individually decorated and vary in size and rates. We offer a spectacular breakfast menu, which can be enjoyed on the patio as you take in the panoramic views across the bay.

During summer, relax by the pool or stroll along the cliff path and in winter, enjoy world famous wines from this region in front of the crackling fireplace in our cosy lounge.

We’re only a short walk to the quaint village centre with bustling galleries, shops and restaurants. We offer all the services and comforts you may need, including satellite television, hairdryers, heated towel rails, tea trays and more.

From Cape Town on the N2 come in to the centre of town. There will be a Pick-‘n-Pay supermarket on the left and a Shell Garage on the right. Turn right at the garage and follow the road towards the sea – it’s a very short distance to the stop sign. At the stop sign turn right again. 300m on your right is La Fontaine Guesthouse.

Luxury sea facing suite – large double/ twin bedded room, small lounge area, dressing room, full bathroom and private balcony.

Family unit – One double/twin room and one twin bedded room sharing an en-suite bathroom with shower. Suitable for a family with two children, or elderly people.

A sparkling salt water pool is very popular in the warm summer months.

HORTENSIA LODGE offers 4 en-suite bedrooms for a maximum of 10 guests.. The large garden rooms offer the possibility for a third person on a sleeper couch.
Sumptuous and tasty breakfasts are served and Rolf assists to plan your day so when you travel on you will leave with good and lasting memories of your visit to Hermanus.

There is safe off-street parking on the property of HORTENSIA LODGE. Rooms are serviced daily and nothing ever is too much for the staff.
All rooms have tea tray,wall safe, beach towels, TV. For a rainy day (seldom) there is a library as well as board and card games. There is a public phone in the lobby. Rolf sells telephone cards (more economical than cell phone calls). Fax and internet services are offered.
The bedrooms are 20 sqm. and 30 sqm.respectively and all rooms have direct access to the gardens. Deck chairs and loungers may want you to stay around the pool instead of being at the beach on a windy day. The gardens are quite sheltered from  southeasterly summer winds that can be strong at times.

The garden rooms have a queen bed and twin beds respectively. Both rooms have shower /toilet, extra bed / sleeper couch.

The other rooms cost R 790 (R 395 per person sharing) One room has twin beds, bath and handshower and toilet, the other has a double bed, shower/toilet.

A special offer is normally available for longer stays and there may also be specials during the low season (May to August).

Unit 1: The Garden Cottage stands separately from the main dwelling at Eastbury with its own pretty fully enclosed garden and covered patio with built in barbeque area. The main bedroom sleeps two with its luxury twin/ or king size bed and is open plan to the sitting/TV area and kitchenette with a breakfast counter. The smaller second bedroom has single beds suitable for children or teenagers. The cottage has a bathroom with a shower over the bath. The kitchen has a mini oven; microwave; toaster; sandwich toaster; frying pan, kettle; fridge; iron and ironing board. The Garden Cottage is fully equipped for 2-4 persons and is suitable for a family. Safe off street parking is provided on the premises. Rates: R 275 – R 350pppn (first two persons sharing) 3rd and 4th persons R 150–R 200pppn; Breakfast additional R 60–R 70 pp.

Unit 2: The Courtyard with it cosy fireplace for romantic evenings in the Winter is attached to the main dwelling and has its own private entrance and small courtyard area for outdoor braaiing. The suite has luxury twin/ or king size bed and a table for dining and a separate kitchenette which is compact with a two plate gas burner, microwave, toaster; kettle, sandwich toaster and bar fridge, a weber kettle barbeque. The newly refurbished bathroom has a bath with a separate shower. Crisp white linen, fluffy towels and toiletries are provided. The Courtyard is fully equipped for 2 adults. Rates: R 250 – R 300pppn sharing; Breakfast additional R 60–R 70 pp.

Unit 3: The Loft upstairs, above the main dwelling is a spacious two bedroom unit with lovely views; its own entrance hall; spacious living /dining area and kitchenette. The bathroom consists of a shower room. The outdoor deck is great for having a sundowner or outdoor braai with the sound and smell of the ocean just two blocks away and a tiny peep of the sea. The bedrooms have twins or king size bed in each. The sofa bed sleeps one or two children on request. The kitchen has a convection/grill microwave; a two plate gas burner; toaster; kettle; fridge; sandwich toaster; iron and ironing board. Linen and towels and toiletries are provided. The Loft is comfortably equipped for 2- 4 persons with the sleeper couch as an extra. Rates: R 300 to R 375pppn (first 2 persons sharing); 3rd and 4th persons R 150–R 200pppn. Unit 4: The Rose Room is a spacious and romantic double room with a queen size bed and bathroom with separate bath and shower. The room opens onto a covered patio with a view of the garden. The kitchenette is fully equipped with gas pates, grill convection microwave, toaster, kettle, electric frying pan iron and ironing board. Rates: R 250–R 300pppn sharing. Breakfast additional at R 60–R 70 pp
